Bird List for 2011 (267 total)

Common Ringed Plover, Yolo County, CA
My bird of the year for 2011

I am looking back at 2011: I was lucky enough to bird in California, Cape May New Jersey, Maryland, New York's Jamaica Bay and south Texas.  I netted eight lifers, the most unexpected being a Winter Wren I spotted  in Maryland, skulking in some shrubbery. To date, for 2011 I've viewed 262 North American bird species. That isn't exactly a big year, but it is a damned decent year, for me.

But now for a virtual drum roll... with my off shore viewing of some poofy tailed, snowy feathered Whooping Cranes in Aransas National Wildlife Refuge I have hit 600 ABA area lifer species. No wait... add in the Falcated Duck at Colusa NWR and that's 601. Whoo hoot!
