Afternoon at the Theater

Looked forward to today's activities for a long, long time. Melanie announced to her less theatrical buds some months ago, that she was hired to direct and choreograph a Sacramento Theater production of The Fantastics. Yes, I too find it difficult to believe I know someone with that much talent. Nevertheless, today a select group of Melanie's buds had the pleasure of attending a matinee performance of The Fantastics at the Sacramento Theater Company.
Jerri, Nancy and Rick by the Pollack Theater
The venue for The Fantastics is the Pollack stage. A cosy theater, seating only 85 souls. That it is so intimate a stage, you feel as though a performance is there solely for your own benefit, as if you leave the theater for a drink of water, it might *POOF* disappear, leaving you with no theater to return to. I've ushered at the Pollack, and have always loved that petite stage and even-more-petite audience.

We were thoroughly entertained, as in,  for the life of me, I can't stop humming 'Try to Remember' (I'm a September baby, so I can't help it). The play is about neighbors, the men of which join in a plot to get their kids to marry. A dirty trick, but a happy ending so there you go. I have a feeling that I have seen this play before, so long ago I can't even remember what state I may have seen it in.

Lovers Left, Fathers, Right

Of course, the thing that amazed us most about this production was that we are buds of its director Melanie Smith. I feel as though I've come up a bit in this Fantastics world.

Had an entertaining afternoon with my friends. We followed up with a nice luncheon at a nearby restaurant.

Excellent work Melanie!
